The vision behind Arena Shumen is to create an organic and memorable image that represents the city's vibrant spirit. The design concept focuses on economically feasible expressions of interior spaces into exterior volumes, resulting in a visually striking structure.
What sets Arena Shumen apart is its complex functional flexibility combined with a recognizable architectural shape. The site, spanning an impressive 55,600 square meters, is strategically connected to the urban structure. It is part of a new and vital secondary urban center, featuring a hotel complex, residential buildings, retail outlets, and open-air children's and sports playgrounds.
The construction of Arena Shumen utilizes a monolithic, beam reinforced concrete structure, with a steel roof. The curved facade walls, protruding beyond the contour of the slabs, are solved with a metal construction attached to the reinforced concrete structure. The roof structure is made of steel, with a maximum support distance of 45.50 meters.
With a total area of 5,600 square meters, Arena Shumen offers a spacious environment for various activities. It includes an area for spectators, a sports and training block, a press area, and a technical zone. The sports hall can accommodate up to 2,400 spectators and meets all international sports federation standards.
Since its opening, Arena Shumen has become a vibrant hub for the community. It is not only used for sports events but also hosts a variety of social activities and exhibitions. The building has quickly become one of the city's most interesting and vital landmarks.
The project started in February 2017 in Shumen and was completed in May 2018. Throughout the design process, a large team of more than 30 designers, engineers, and artists collaborated to ensure the project's success. Extensive research was conducted to meet international standards, local team requirements, terrain conditions, and budget constraints.
Creating Arena Shumen presented several challenges, particularly in integrating a modern multifunctional building into a historically rich and socially significant location. The aim was to create an emblematic structure that would serve as a symbol of the city's progress and identity.
Arena Shumen is not only a sports hall but also a key component of an ambitious residential complex. The site, spanning 55 decares, is located in an attractive zone at the entrance of Shumen. The design has received numerous accolades, including the Bronze A' Design Award in 2023, recognizing its outstanding creativity and ingenious design.
With its striking architecture and multifunctional capabilities, Arena Shumen stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of art, architecture, design, and technology. It represents the city's commitment to progress and quality of life improvements, making it a truly remarkable addition to Shumen's landscape.
